The much-anticipated second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel debuts on the streaming platform soon, and fan speculation has been rampant.
The first season presents a large cast of personalities living within the afterlife, sets them at odds with songs detailing their conflicts, and establishes heated competitions and emotional bonds that drive fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 vary widely, but certain threads recur frequently: Will a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Will we find out more about the binding agreement constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with fan service specifically in mind," the showrunner stated recently. "However I feel like me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She reveals her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by the production companies, which finance the series.
That could imply viewers have to wait years for some of the major resolutions — but they may be surprised at how quickly the new season moves, and how much of what they're waiting for happens now.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "There are several debut moments. I think we get some incredible reveals, some really cool origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear much more singing from the previously silent cast members."
She's certainly aware of the guesses and hopes about the upcoming season — particularly in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a couple people create a bingo card about season 2," she says. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've already completed some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 premieres on the streaming service on October 29.
