The artist has donated the complete sum of his £25,000 award winnings to the MVT, which operates to preserve the Britain's small live music spots.

The star was awarded the cheque on 16 October as his latest record People Watching was chosen as the best record of the last 12 months.

The musician has decided to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in appreciation of the crucial part grassroots venues played in his early career.

"I personally couldn't be pursuing this success if it wasn't for all the performances I played around the area, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," stated Sam Fender. "These venues are renowned, but they are in difficulty."

From early 2023 onward, more than 150 of these venues have ceased operations – approximately 16% of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, major artists such as Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its initiatives to help venues survive, by applying a minor surcharge to their ticket costs, which supports independent venues.

He also took part, generating more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to help 38 local spots across the UK.

These funds supported spaces that were confronting possible closure due to issues arising from floods, fires and family tragedies, as well as regulatory hurdles, legal disputes and sound issues.

Some locations were granted monetary aid in improving facilities and gear that directly benefitted artists and concertgoers.

"The notion that money from performances in big venues backs the local stages, where it begins for musicians like me, is just sensible," the star has commented.

The musician is far from the only musician to give his honor winnings to charitable organizations.

Back when they received the prize in the year 1996 for their album their work, vocalist Cocker stated that the group would contribute their winnings to the organization War Child.

During 2002, artist Ms Dynamite divided her bounty between multiple charities, including the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"I also contributed a grand to the center, to their classes, because I trained in gymnastics when I was growing up and they lacked better apparatus," she shared with outlets.

In recent years, Ezra Collective gave their prize money to the youth organization that supported their group, in addition to other independent music bodies.

Also 1994 winners they donated their award to a charity for MS after a friend was identified with the illness.

"Receiving the award was ample," said singer Small. "The prize was the bonus but we didn't need the cherry, because we had the cake. So our victory affected another person's life."

Last week, the trust shared it had rescued two grassroots venues in south-east England, by placing them under local control.

The first in the city and The Croft in that location were bought under the public acquisition initiative, which is backed by Arts Council England and supporters who purchase "stakes" in the properties.
